The Infamous Xtraview”Waiting for Communication” Error:
15 Feb 2018
Of all the errors that customers report, this one gives a dstv installer the most headaches!
Actually easy to fix once you know how, but here is a short checklist of what you should look out for:
- Make sure the heartbeat cable connections to each decoder are still well connected .If necessary, take off the f-connector and ensure that there is still enough braid and that it is not touching the centre-pin. Then twist it back on, making sure there is a good seating on the cable.
- Go into the decoder menu and, and check whether the heartbeat setting is for RF-IN or RF-OUT. (On pre-Explora decoders, go to Advanced options / Xtraview, on Explora decoders go to Settings/System Settings/Remote control and check the same thing there). Then make sure your heartbeat cable is physically connected to the RF connector on the decoder which matches the setting specified.
- If neither of these actions makes any difference, call the Multichoice hotline and ask them to see if they can get the heartbeat going.
- Unfortunately, if this still does not work, it may be due to a faulty heartbeat cable ( will need to be replaced) or a splitter in the ceiling may have gone faulty causing the heartbeat signal to be lost. Heartbeat signals don’t like cables which have joins in them; it is quite common that a join in the heartbeat cable which is not easily visible, may be the problem. If you are the DIY type of person who doesn’t mind stomping around in ceilings, go up and have a look. Sometimes it stares you in the face. Otherwise, if you would rather not risk it, give an accredited installer a call and let him sort it out for you.
